AMHERST, N.Y. -- A group of ˿Ƶ College students put their training on weatherization basics into action by helping to weatherize more than two dozen homes in Buffalo’s Fillmore neighborhood.

Overseen by volunteer union workers, the student volunteers from ˿Ƶ assisted with weatherizing 30 homes along the Fillmore Corridor on Oct. 3. They were trained for the project, which included weather stripping, caulking and other ways to conserve home energy, by Arthur Wheaton, director of Western New York Labor and Environmental Programs for the Worker Institute at Cornell University.

“Our students made a great impact with Fillmore Corridor homeowners by volunteering their time and efforts to make weatherization improvements that will be beneficial in the winter months ahead,” said Dr. Sharon Benz, community coordinator of the ˿Ƶ Center for Sustainable Communities and Civic Engagement (CSCCE), who led the student group.

The ˿Ƶ CSCCE partnered on the project with Fillmore-Broadway Neighborhood Housing Services and Western New York Apollo Alliance.
