May 31, 2019AMHERST, N.Y. – ˿Ƶ College’s Polonia Institute for visiting students from Poland will feature a lecture open to the public by scholar Dr. Tomasz Pudlocki at 7 p.m. June 5 in the Wick Campus Center Alumni Lounge.
In his lecture, “Beyond the Ivory Tower: Societies of Learning in the European Tradition,” Pudlocki will discuss the rich tradition of European Societies of Learning from the late Middle Ages through the present time. He will also focus on the Society of Friends of Learning in Przemysl, Poland, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
Event co-sponsors are the ˿Ƶ History and Political Science Department and the Center for Polish Studies, and the Polish Arts Club of Buffalo.
Pudlocki, an associate professor of history at Jagellion University in Krakow, Poland, accompanied students from the university for the two-week Polonia Institute, which runs through June 6 at ˿Ƶ. In addition to a series of lectures, students are learning about the history of Polonia in Buffalo through site visits to St. Stanislaus Church, Corpus Christi Church, the Broadway Market, and other locations in the city and Western New York.
