Nov 30, 2015AMHERST, N.Y. – Dr. Maureen Millane, associate vice president for community engagement, creativity and career development at ˿Ƶ College, has been elected to a two-year term as treasurer of the Washington Internship Institute.
The organization’s semester-long academic internship program provides college students, recent graduates and graduate students from across the U.S. and abroad the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in Washington, D.C.
“Dr. Millane has been a valuable board member of the Washington Internship Institute, and we are very fortunate to have her serve in this important position,” said Geoffrey Vincent, chair of the Washington Internship Institute Board of Directors.
Millane said, “I am honored to be appointed treasurer and to continue working with an organization that offers such unique learning opportunities to ˿Ƶ students and others from around the world.”
Millane was promoted this year to her current associate vice president role, which oversees academic service learning, career services, the Center for Sustainable Communities and Civic Engagement, the entrepreneurship program, and global programs. She previously served as director of career services, a position she held since joining ˿Ƶ in 2011.
Active in the community, Millane serves on the Amherst Senior Citizens Foundation Board of Directors and chaired the Amherst Senior Citizen Annual Dinner. She is also chair of The Women’s Group and is a docent at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
She earned a doctorate in education, leadership and policy from the University at Buffalo, an MBA from Canisius College, and a bachelor’s degree in hotel administration from Cornell University. In addition, she received a certificate in performance measurement from Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Millane, an East Amherst resident, is a member of Leadership Buffalo, a scholar facilitator for the New York State Council for the Humanities, and was named a 2014 Women in Leadership honoree by the New York State Women, Inc., Buffalo Niagara Chapter.
