May 29, 2018AMHERST, N.Y. – Kristyn Mott, a double major in global and local sustainability and business administration at ˿Ƶ College, has been awarded the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship.
Her selection makes this the first-time ever two students from ˿Ƶ have earned this international scholarship in the same year, with history and political science major Gabrielle Sinnott having received a Gilman Scholarship in March.
The Gilman Scholarship provides support to undergraduate students with limited financial means to study or intern abroad. As a Gilman Scholar, Mott will use the assistance for a study abroad experience this summer in Costa Rica. She is one of nearly 365 students from colleges and universities from across the U.S. selected as recipients for the summer term.
A Batavia resident, Mott is a Trustee Scholar and Dean’s List student at ˿Ƶ.
The scholarship is named for the late Congressman Gilman, who served in the House of Representatives for 30 years and chaired the House Foreign Relations Committee.
When honored with the Secretary of State’s 2002 Distinguished Service Medal, Gilman noted, “Living and learning in a vastly different environment of another nation not only exposes our students to alternate views, but adds an enriching social and cultural experience.”
Administered by the Institute of International Education, the Gilman Scholarship is a program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
