A charitable bequest to support the Canavan Society is one of the easiest and most flexible ways that you can leave a gift to Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ that will make a lasting impact.
With the help of an attorney, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to family, friends or Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ as part of your estate plan, or you can make a bequest using a beneficiary designation form.
A bequest is generally a revocable gift, which means it can be changed or modified at any time. You can choose to designate that a bequest be used for a general or specific purpose so you have the peace of mind knowing that your gift will be used as intended. Bequests are exempt from federal estate taxes. If you have a taxable estate, the estate tax charitable deduction may offset or eliminate estate taxes, resulting in a larger inheritance for your heirs.
If you are considering making an outright bequest to Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ, we recommend the following language:
I hereby give, devise and bequeath _________ and No/100 dollars ($DOLLARS) to Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ, a nonprofit organization located at 4380 Main St., Amherst, NY, 14226, Federal Tax ID #16-0759798, for Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ's general use and purpose.
A gift of your life insurance policy is an excellent way to make a gift to Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ. If you have a life insurance policy that has outlasted its original purpose, consider making a gift of your insurance policy to Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ. For example, you may have purchased a policy to provide for minor children and they are now financially independent adults.
To make a gift of life insurance, please contact your life insurance provider, request a beneficiary designation form from the insurer and include Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ as the beneficiary of your policy.
Please let us know if you have already named us as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy. We would like to thank you and recognize you for your gift.
You can also designate Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ as a partial, full or contingent beneficiary of your life insurance policy. You will continue to own and can make use of the policy during your lifetime. Your estate may benefit from an estate tax charitable deduction.
Your deduction for the gift of life insurance will depend on whether the policy has increased in value above the premiums and whether the policy is paid up or there are remaining payments to be made.
