The department of Psychological Sciences is proud to highlight Hannah Gullo as the Alumni of the Month for February. Hannah graduated in December of 2016 with her B.A. in Psychology and minors in community health promotion and French.
We are thrilled to hear Hannah has been accepted into Niagara University for the Master of Science in Education School Counseling program. Hannah will begin the graduate program, full-time, in the upcoming fall. The master's degree is 48 credit hours for provisional certification. Hannah will learn the necessary skills to serve as a school counselor with focus on ethical practice and social justice in the school environment. The course study provides ample education on the academic, career, and personal/social needs of students from preK - 12. The program includes one practicum placement, and two internship placements. The school counseling practicum is 100 hours, and the internships are 300 hours each. For permanent certification, Hannah will need to complete 12 credit hours (the certificate of advanced studies program), and have two years of experience as a school counselor. The Certificate of Advanced Studies program also allows students to apply for national certification as a professional counselor (NCC) and as a professional school counselor (NSC).
Hannah has told the faculty in our department that ˿Ƶ College has prepared her for graduate work. She wrote, “I would like to express my gratitude for the kind and supportive psychology faculty who taught me. I am also thankful for the rigorous and rewarding curriculum. The thesis sequence challenged me, and I have gained so much from going through the process. I was able to work independently on original research with guidance from my thesis advisor and fellow classmates. The psychology electives offered me background in various fields of psychology, and I look forward to building upon my education with my master's degree.”
Since Hannah will not begin her graduate program until Fall, 2017, she has been busy working at Wegmans. From March to June, she will serve as a coach for Girls on the Run. GOTR is a non-profit organization that focuses on empowering young girls with a curriculum that promotes confidence, good character, health, compassion, competence, teamwork, and contributing to the community. The lessons are combined with running activities that prepare the students for a 5K at the end of the 10-week program.
The department faculty are so happy to see Hannah sharing her intellectual gifts, her compassion, her commitment and dedication to helping others, and her unyielding motivation to make not only herself but the world around her a better place.
